The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta 2024 took place from August 9th to 11th at Ashton Court Estate, just outside the city of Bristol. This free-to-attend, three-day event is one of the largest ballooning gatherings in Europe, celebrating the city’s rich history and connection to hot air ballooning. Over 100 balloons take flight, with mass ascents scheduled twice daily, at dawn (around 6 am) and dusk (around 6 pm), weather permitting.
The Fiesta also included various attractions and activities throughout the day, such as food stalls, trade stands, and exhibitions, ensuring that there’s something for everyone even if weather conditions prevent the balloons from flying. A highlight of the event is the Night Glow, held on Friday and Saturday evenings, where dozens of balloons lit up the night sky in time to music, creating a magical experience for the audience.
For 2024, the Fiesta hosted the British National Hot Air Balloon Championships, adding an exciting competitive element to the event. Approximately 15 balloon teams competed in various tasks, showcasing their skills to the spectators.
The event remains a key part of Bristol’s cultural heritage and has grown significantly since its inception in 1979. Despite being free, parking fees and hospitality packages help support this not-for-profit event, which relies on a dedicated team of volunteers to bring it to life each year.
