When and where we fly
We publish all the flight details on our Facebook page and everyone is welcome to come and join us and share in the experience.
To ensure safety and a smooth flight, ballooning requires specific weather conditions. So when planning our flights we need to take the weather conditions into account as these can impact the time, launch location and duration of the flight.
Our flights are typically planned for either early in the morning, between 06:00 and 07:00, and/or early evening between 18:00 and 19:00.
We also typically fly from Snake Meadows, Keynsham Rugby Club or Royal Victoria Park Bath, although there are other locations to choose from, again depending on the weather conditions. These locations provide a good mix of urban and countryside scenery, making our flights diverse and memorable.
Weather conditions to consider:
- Wind speed: Ideally, winds should be light. Strong winds can make launching, flying, and landing dangerous.
- Visibility: Clear skies or minimal cloud cover are necessary. Poor visibility due to fog, or low clouds can impair navigation and the ability to spot landing areas.
- Thermals: These rising air currents caused by the sun heating the ground can be a hazard, especially in the middle of the day. Our balloon flights are often scheduled early in the morning or early in the evening when thermals are less active.
- Temperature: Cooler air is generally better for ballooning as it allows the balloon to lift more efficiently. This is why early morning and evening flights are more common.
