About Snake Meadows
Snake Meadows is a scenic open field adjacent to the A4 in Saltford. Originally used for agricultural purposes it was transformed in February 2024 into an ideal location for hot air ballooning while also maintaining meadowed areas and the creation of a pond to support local wildlife.

Landscaping
Areas of the field were flattened and cleared of obstructions, ensuring a safe takeoff and landing area. access gates were added or upgraded to make it accessible for both vehicles and visitors without harming the surrounding vegetation and wildlife.

Grass Cutting
The grass is kept at an optimal height to ensure a safe surface for hot air balloon takeoff and landing. The grass must be short enough to prevent tangling with balloon ropes or causing uneven surfaces, which could be hazardous for equipment, balloon crews and visitors.
Certain areas are left uncut or mowed less frequently to provide refuge for small animals, ground-nesting birds, and pollinators. The mowing schedule avoids peak nesting and breeding periods, allowing wildlife to thrive undisturbed. Additionally, cutting is done gradually to allow any animals in the area time to move to safer spots.
